Goodyear South Africa has reached another milestone on its journey to improve employee wellness. The company recently reopened an upgraded on-site canteen at its manufacturing facility in Uitenhage, in the Eastern Cape. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place during the lunch rush. Entering the revamped facility for the first time, employees were welcomed by the mouthwatering aroma of a meal inspired by celebrity chef Reuben Riffel, who was in attendance. Group MD for Goodyear South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, Darren Hayes-Powell, together with colleagues from Europe, Middle East and Africa region, proudly cut the ribbon. “It gives us great pleasure to unveil The GoodLife Café, a place we hope will help all our employees to make better meal choices,” said Hayes-Powell. Named by a Goodyear employee, the café now includes healthier meal options on its menu as well as a small convenience store. The new look and feel of the canteen aims to provide employees with a space to relax and re-energise before returning to work. Hayes-Powell encouraged Goodyear employees to make use of the on-site gym, which was officially opened for use by Goodyear employees in March of this year. “As a company, it is important for us to build a culture where our teams are energised and benefit from engaging with the work-life balance platforms provided to them,” he said.
