The independent National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) – a leading global provider of health and safety qualifications based in the United Kingdom – is using augmented reality (AR) to bring safety learning to life

Safety Simplified, NEBOSH’s new three-day course focuses on the practical nature of health and safety, while AR helps people visualise what they’re being taught.

“There are numerous AR scenarios, covering some of the most common safety issues such as noise, vibration, desk working, mechanical hazards, manual handling and working at height,” says Ian Taylor, NEBOSH chief executive.

Learners will, he adds, return to their workplaces with safety tips, ideas and tools that can be put into practice immediately.

“Relevant to anyone, in any organisation, in any sector, Safety Simplified provides an ideal introduction to health and safety,” Taylor points out. The course is designed to promote positive change – including fewer days lost through illness and accidents, and an improved safety culture among employees.

“Safety Simplified is hugely exciting as it’s been designed to help people outside of safety teams make a contribution to health and safety. By making it available in multiple languages – we can even better reach the people who do, the people in the offices, in warehouses, on construction sites and any workplace you can think of.”

NEBOSH will be exhibiting at the A-OSH Expo from 2 to 4 June 2020 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg. Visit the NEBOSH team on stand B04 to discuss the board’s latest qualifications and courses, including Safety Simplified.
